Why Does Mcleish Persist With Fahey?

I just cannot see why McLeish picks him. When he does pick him it is usually at the expense of Benitez by jiggling McFadden's role. Oh and we normally lose when Fahey plays.

So what does McLeish and everyone else see, that I don't?

Your thoughts please.

I concur...

He is a good squad player but not a starter. I think we are missing Mcfadden wide.
We need to go back to Jerome and Benitez up front

I agree

I dont get leaving Benitez out of the side

How many games have we won with Mcfadden and Jerome ?

We always look more dangerous with Chucho playing

I think he may well keep the same for saturday though

i think chucho would require us to pay even more money if he played more games

If a player like McGeady came on board then I would expect Fahey to leave.

You're right though Lowds, he isn't good enough.

Fahey is a central midfielder, playing out of position to accomadate him in the team.To me play him in the middle or not at all, he isn't a winger, and always leaves that side exposed.

is eck giving him a real run in the team to really test the lad?

it seems to the fans that the player is just not prem standard...yet eck seems unsure.

is eck having a final look at 1 or 2 to see who he lets go at the end of the season?

He's neat and tidy, but doesn't seem to have the cutting edge required to unlock Premier League defences. I'd expect him to either be retained as a squad player or sold for a modest profit. I can't imagine that his wages are sky high.

He's very frustrating, he just doesn't offer enough during the games for me to warrant a starting place. He'll create one or two great passes in a game then become anonymous for the rest, which makes me wonder if he struggles with the physical side.

The trouble at the moment is the defense not the midfield. The usually pairing of Johnson and Dann have not been up to scratch in the last 2 games and last night Hart had one of his worst displays since joining the team.
The midfield is making plenty of chances but No striker to put them away.

I thought that but to judge a player you need to play him in his best position. imo he is not good enough for the prem and also have doubts about Micheal and to a less degree Gardner. dont think they are players who will improve us any.

Agreed.

He is basiclly a championship player out of his depth in the premiership, us fans can see this so why cant AM?

shame he,s getting some stick, being played on the LW not his natural. A good squad member at least. And as a play maker CM then i think he would be very good. We have lots of CM so he not given the chance.

there are elements of his game i really like, but on current form he's not doing better than McFadden at LM.

i didn't want to contribute to this topic as i believe it's another non-starter of a post from Lowdham, but kev, i have two points in response to your post:

1. a small minority of posters on here does not constitute as 'us' fans... there are a number on here and supporters as a whole, who appreciate and respect the effort put in by Fahey. they recognise that this is his first season in the Premier League and he's being played out of position. he's a good professional who works hard and gives what he's got to the good of the team/squad. i would also bet he's on far less than many of those around him too.

2. is Keith Fahey the new Damien Johnson for those supporters looking to player-bash a hard-working player? DJ was bought for very little in today's standards and he got knocked right, left and centre. it seems that Fahey, also picked up for little is going the same way.

I think hes a busy little player with good feet and an eye for a pass. To be honest I think we need to get behind him and build his confidence instead of slagging him off. I rate the player and I dont think hes been any worse than Larsson, McFadden or a few of the others in recent games...

....looks like Fahey is this months scapegoat then, yawwnnn

Put it this way.

When we watch him he seems to give the ball away and not get involved.

When opposition fans watch him they think he looks brilliant. I have spoken to a few recently.

What are we not seeing?

Some people are far too quick to write people off and call them "rubbish"...even though he turned our season around and dragged us to promotion last season.

He deserves a crack at the Prem, and its his first season here, he's not been all bad...some games, yeah he's not played too well, but others he's done alright.

I to have spoken to a few opposition fans who think he is a very tidy and neat player, who keeps possession and passes well.

He is a central midfielder, similar to Barry Ferguson...the one who can be disciplined, keep the ball, and pass it about... im sure Barry would struggle being played wide left too.

Maybe now that we are safe and practically have nothing to play for McLeish is giving fahey a chance to see if he can cut the mustard. Remember Not long ago he was playing in the Irish league, and players do need time to adjust to a new league, not everyone is as luck as RJ and SD.

It's hardly persisting is it? Having a run of about 7-8 games?

Not too long ago it was why are we persisiting with McFadden, why are we persisting with Larsson etc. etc.
